Nicole Higham, Education Coordinator

– Helping our staff to make our residents feel supported and loved –

Nicole Higham Care ManagerAs the Education Coordinator at Berrington, Nicole wants to educate the staff develop their skills in order to help provide the highest level of care to our residents.

“I love that no two days are the same and that residents always have an interesting story to tell about their past. I also enjoy witnessing the interaction between the families and their loved ones. It’s like having a hundred grandparents that I get to see every day!”

Education and Professional Development

In 2012, Nicole graduated from Edith Cowan University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She decided to study nursing after she returned from two years of travelling and living overseas. Initially, Nicole wanted to become a paramedic, but she fell in love with nursing and working in the aged care field. “I love the fact that Berrington focuses on the holistic care of our residents—the lifestyle as well as the clinical.”

Nicole also earned a degree in Sports Science and is a qualified phlebotomist. With a thirst for learning, she is constantly looking for ways to upskill and increase her knowledge. “I am always looking for interesting education sessions to attend to extend my knowledge and skills”. She recently completed her immunisation certificate and had previously done the Wound Masterclass through Silver Chain and taken various other courses plus attended seminars related to nursing in aged care.

Maintaining an Active Life

Outside of work, Nicole enjoys spending time with her young son. “Most of my time is spent chasing after him and playing at the park or with cars and trains. As a family, we love to go for bike rides and spend time together at the beach.”
